AccuPOS Retail On Screen Choice Keys

Setup Guide

When using the Remote Printing Module, AccuPOS on screen Choice Keys help streamline changes, preparation directions, and additions to the POS orders. Just like the on screen buttons, laying out the choices and additions correctly, is crucial for productive usage. This guide will walk you through setting up the choices, creating menus and assigning items to keys the right way, the first time.

All additions to orders that will affect the total price of the primary item, must be setup in the accounting software as a separate item (choice item) with a price (example: Add Avocado $0.50).

If the choice will not affect the total price of the primary item, it does not need to be setup in the accounting program (example: Add salt).

Choices are categorized in groups. Each group of choices will be assigned to all similar items. For example, choice group SANDWICH will contain all possible choices for all sandwiches, it will come up no matter which sandwich is applied to the transaction.

Once the choice items are set in the accounting software, and before you start setting up the choice group pages, it is important that you know which choices will be under each category. Doing so will help group all similar choices on the page and help set the position of the key by priority. For example when setting up the sandwich choice group, the priority may be

1.       Type of bread

2.       Type of meat

3.       Type of cheese

4.       Dressing

5.       Extras

Once the choices are arranged and prioritized the choice groups pages can be created using AccuPOS Management.

Go to Setup, Keys, Add/Change Choices Keys.

The default Choices Group field is blank, type in a choice group name and click “Add Group”.

Click New to create a new choice key.

1.       The information in the button label is for the cashier only.

2.       If the choice will effects the price of the primary item, click on the Item key and select the item you set in the accounting software (example: Add Avocado $0.50). Then, in text field enter the description that should print in the kitchen when this choice is selected.

3.       If the choice will not affect the price of the primary item, just enter it in the Text filed (example: Add Salt).

4.       As default, the key will be positioned in the order you create them, later you may change the layout by changing the order number

5.       Click on the Change button and Change text color to change the color of the choice keys. Keep the same color for the same choice groups. For example, in the sandwich choice group bread may be brown, meat-orange, cheese-white etc.

To prevent having to create each key two or three times, it is a good idea to create No, Extra and On The Side buttons on every choice group. When creating these keys do not check the Enter CR (carriage return) after since another choice will follow and check the Cannot Repeat to prevent the cashier from selecting the button twice. (example: No and then Cheese or Extra and then Cheese).

Every page on the Choice Group contains 35 buttons; you can click the Next button to add another page to the same Choice Group.  There is no limit to the number of pages in a Choice Group.  As mentioned before, it is important to set the most common choices first.  It will eliminate the need for the cashier to go to the next page every time.

To create another Choice Group, enter a new name in the Choices Group field and click New. To edit a Choice Group, select it from the pull down menu and make the necessary changes.

In order for the Choice Group to come up when specific items are applied to the transaction, the Choice Group name needs to be entered in the Accounting Software Custom Field CHOICES of those items. Please refer to the initial setup guide of your accounting software, for additional information on custom fields.
